Join the lab
The Waghmare established at UMass Lowell’s Department of Biological Sciences in January 2024. We are interested in understanding how cells communicate with each other during normal development, and how this communication is disrupted in cancer. We study these biological questions with a focus on the Wnt cell signaling pathway using genetic, biochemical, imaging, and cell culture-based tools. We are currently looking for enthusiastic lab technicians, undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students who are interested in studying mechanisms of cell-cell communication using fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) as a model organism.
Trainees in the lab will lead independent projects and are expected to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment. A lab compact outlining my expectations from trainees and my commitment to their careers can be found here. All candidates interested in joining the lab should contact me via email at [email protected] or [email protected]. Please include a resume/CV, names and contact information of 3 references, and a cover letter describing your interest in a particular position in the lab. Additional details regarding specific positions are outlined below: PhD Students: These positions are fully funded with a mix of TA-ship and research funds. Students will receive a stipend, and tuition costs will be covered. Students will need to formally apply to the UML Applied Biology PhD program after discussion with me. Students may also apply through the Biomedical Engineering & Biotechnology Doctoral Program. The applications are accepted on a rolling basis. MS Students: Students will start out by taking credits for research project with an option to convert the credits into thesis credits depending on the progress made. These positions are not funded by research funds but TA-ships may be available and are not guaranteed. Undergraduates: I typically accept students in their first undergraduate year although exceptions will be made on a case-to-case basis. Please contact me for possible projects along with the 'UG INFORMATION FORM' below. Students from biology or related field may apply. Students may do research in the lab for course credit, for remuneration on a per hour basis (pending available funds), or as volunteers |
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organized, and responsible Laboratory Technician (lab tech) to conduct research related to cell-cell communication using fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) as a model organism. In addition to research, lab tech will mentor trainees, manage the lab, and contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive training environment. Lab techs will have their own independent research projects and earn authorship on scientific papers. This position is ideal for someone seeking to obtain additional research experience prior to entering graduate school or other biomedical careers and is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
